"For weeks, Christmas demand has helped strengthen the market," confirmed Ian Stevenson, chief executive of the Livestock and Meat Committee.

"With the opening up of the European catering industry in recent months, the demand for lamb has also increased accordingly."

He added: "The number of lambs also plays a key role in determining the strength of the market."

About 75% of the lamb produced in Northern Ireland is ultimately sold outside the UK. First, a large number of locally produced lambs are brought to cross-border processing every week.

Ian Stevenson said that considering that processors have now killed the animals needed to meet Christmas demand, lamb prices may weaken slightly from next week.

"The upcoming blockade across Europe should also be taken into account," he emphasized.

"But we just have to wait and see how these issues will develop in the coming weeks."

At the same time, demand for the wool sales season in 2021 will continue to be strong, and wool market prices will continue to rise.

This week's sales saw all types of bidding; prices rose as a result, and 100% of the wool offered was cleared. People are particularly interested in Blackface wool, and continued interest in Medium & Mule wool and special types of wool (such as Bluefaced Leicester wool) once again set price records.

Since the beginning of the year, auction prices have risen by more than 40%, and the average auction price this week reached 77.5 pence per kilo.

Brendan Kelly, Chairman of Ulster Wool Company, said: "We remain optimistic that the current strong demand will continue and the recovery of the wool market will continue throughout the season, which will lead to further price increases. As we enter winter, many shepherds in Northern Ireland have been shipping wool to Ulster Wool Company this year, and the wool will not be delivered in 2020.

"I encourage any producer who still has wool on the farm to deliver it to us to ensure that they benefit from the current market recovery. If any shepherd decides to store wool, you must ensure that it is properly stored in the building clean and dry Keep the area away from the floor, because wool absorbs moisture, which will affect the color and quality, as well as the final value, over time."

The mission of Ulster Wool Company is to promote sustainable demand in order to maximize the value of the wool of its members. It does this by collectively marketing the clips on behalf of its members.

Mr. Kelly continued: “The only way for producers to get better returns and gain real market value for wool is to support Ulster wool. With the reduction of the cost base, the recovery of the market and exciting new initiatives, such as the Headlam Group recently With the launch of Wool Britannia carpet yarn and Harrison Spinks traceable mattress series, we are driving new demand for wool and increasing its value. This puts Ulster Wool in a more favorable position and can provide our members with better returns. "

Brendan Kelly concluded: “Every kilogram of wool processed has made an important contribution to supporting Ulster Wool. In view of our spirit of cooperation, our scale enables us to provide high standards of service to all producers, promoting our customers and Downstream manufacturers’ demand for wool and continue to represent the best interests of all wool producers.”
